Big Travel, Small Budget: How to Travel More, Spend Less, and See the World
Easiest reservations I've ever made. A review of travelocity.com.
A friend of mine works at a travel agency near my home in Japan and she is able to get discounts, find the best rates and a bunch of other fun stuff I wouldn't be able to get anywhere else or if I didn't know her. Naturally, I went to her first. She did a lot of checking, went through all her back doors and performed all her little tricks to get me best deal and she came up with some very good rates for international travel. I got some quotes from her but said, ultimately, I would do some more searching on my own. That's when I went to travelocity.com and I'm glad I did.
I was able to find an even better flight (a round trip direct flight) for over $100 less than what my friend had found through all her hunting. I couldn't believe it. Up to that point I'd never booked anything with travelocity.com but I'll be a repeat customer without a doubt. The website is easy to use, easy to navigate and most importantly for me, it was honest. When I entered my travel criteria I was given the exact price of the ticket immediately. There was no waiting. No "call us for a special offer" b.s. No "click here for taxes, hidden fees and other things we hide from you to screw you over" button. It was just the price -- boom, taxes and fees all included right up front. That made things quite easy and that always goes a long way. I booked the ticket for considerably less than $600 USD (again, international round trip, non-stop...that's good stuff) and went on my merry way.
I received my confirmation email with all my details within about sixty seconds. One thing that surprised me about this site was they even went as far as to inform me that the airlines I was traveling on had been bought-out by another company. The website provided me with details about what this meant in regard to my trip. Most surprising was the very helpful information on where my new check-in location inside the airport would be as a result of the buyout. Maybe this is normal to you frequent travelers but I was certainly surprised and grateful for the information.
Another wonderful little nugget about this experience is I was able to book a room at the Hilton Hotel in Seattle on this site for $40 USD a night. It was a pretty snazzy hotel so this just speaks more to the company's ability to get their customers great deals.
In closing, I would recommend travelocity.com for sure. I booked about a month in advance, so I'm sure this helped with low rates but I'm confident as well the site has some of the cheapest rates around. Again, the site is easy to use. It's straight forward, honest and I'm not sure there's much else to ask for. I never had to speak with customer service (which is always a good thing) so I am unable to report on that. Happy travels.
